Faculty of Life Sciences organised an educational visit to National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR) on 22-December 2023.
It was an open day at NIPGR. Many activities and events were held for the students. A talk by an eminent biologist, Dr. Partha Majumdar, on precision medicine in cancer kick-started the visit, where he provided beautiful insights on the genomic origins of different types of cancer. The program was followed by facility tour, wherein the students were exposed to instrumentation and research techniques used in plant genome research such as confocal microscopy, protein and DNA isolation, transgenic selection, real-time PCR, infrared gas analyser to detect photosynthesis in plants, etc; The poster presentations from the research associates and scholars on the cutting-edge research being conducted in their labs culminated the day into a successful educational visit.
