Biotechnology is an emerging discipline used across agriculture, medicine, health, industry, environment, forensics and production. Recent advances in bio-energy, bioremediation, synthetic biology, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics and bio-nanotechnology make biotechnology a powerful field with a promising future.
An interdisciplinary program combining biochemistry, biology and biomedicine. Since biotechnology centres on using biological and biochemical processes to produce new compounds, this course imparts skills in synthetic biology and molecular cell biology so students truly understand the core of biotechnology.
Microbiology is the study of microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, algae, fungi and protozoa. Alongside traditional microbiology, students explore molecular genetics, public health, environmental quality and food production & safety — an exciting field amplified by recent global health research.
